No Outsiders

At Brunton, equality is very important to us and we feel that every child should feel safe, happy and confident, achieving successfully within a vibrant and stimulating community. We explore and celebrate differences and diversity through our 'No Outsiders' approach. This ensures that everybody feels welcome and valued in line with the 2010 Equality Act, whatever their race, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation and gender.

From Reception through to KS1 and KS2, the No Outsiders ethos is developed through references to the Equality Act 2010. Posters around the school and in every classroom list the protected characteristics and children understand the definitions. This robust school ethos enables us to eliminate discrimination as children learn that everyone is welcome in the school; there are no outsiders because we are in ‘insiders’ here; we are different race, religion, sexuality, gender, we have different abilities and ages but we all belong. The ethos improves equality of opportunity for all, encouraging children to be proud of their differences and to understand how British Law protects those differences in the strive for equality.

The school consults with children every year in a questionnaire which demonstrates the extent to which the attitudes towards equality and diversity are embedded.
