Safeguarding

At Brunton we are committed to ensuring that every child in school is safe and protected from harm. This means we will always work to:

  • Protect children and young people at our school from maltreatment;
  • Prevent impairment of our children’s and young people’s health or development;
  • Ensure that children and young people at our school grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • Undertake our role so that children at our school have the best possible outcomes.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. (Keeping Children Safe in Education 2016)

You can download the Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy through the link below. Please contact school if you would like to discuss any aspect of our work to safeguard the children in our care or if you have any concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of any members of our school community.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Bev Armstrong and Carolyn Appleby, Mark Horsfall and Gavin Turnbull are all Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads too.

We are also an Operation Encompass School

Operation Encompass is a project in which all Newcastle schools, the police and the City Council are involved.   It aims to support children who are affected by domestic abuse.
